Patriotic Finds You Can Wear Past July 4th

If I’m going to be completely honest, I had every intention of writing a post for Fourth of July, but my husband and I planned a hiking and camping trip for the long weekend and time escaped me. At the weekend’s conclusion, with the work already half done I found myself sitting in front of the computer wondering how I could salvage the blog post.

I found inspiration in my husband’s over-the-top patriotic shirt- a muscle tee with an American flag covering his whole torso and an American eagle busting through the middle of the flag. The kind of shirt that certainly inspires an “America- fuck yea” or two. Admittedly the shirt is hilarious, but definitely not a regular item in his t-shirt rotation.

Part of building an ethical wardrobe is intentionally purchasing things that can be worn on more than one occasion. Despite what Instagram would have you believe, it’s OK to wear something more than once. In a world of fast fashion and rapidly changing trends, we are also rapidly overflowing our landfills. According to Newsweek Americans discard fourteen billion pounds of textiles every year, 85% of which end up in landfills. So you may want to rethink that star spangled tank top at H&M you plan to wear once and chuck before the next July fourth.

I enjoy wearing a themed outfit as much as anyone, so I searched for pieces that are patriotic but you can wear way past July 4th and on multiple occasions. All of these pieces are ethically made and support good causes (without breaking the bank) so it’s a double win!
