Fair Trade Jewelry that Shines and Inspires

    October 29, 2020 / 2 Comments

What better way to celebrate Fair Trade Month than with an assortment of fair trade jewelry? While it can be difficult to search for fair trade items to meet all your needs, there is no shortage of fair trade jewelry. Fair trade jewelry is handcrafted by artisans in developing countries using sustainably collected and often eco friendly materials. Some jewelry designs reflect the artisans’ cultures, while other designs are targeted at a more mainstream consumer crowd. Buying fair trade jewelry supports artisans and helps to end the cycle of poverty…

Happy Fair Trade Month! Understanding the Movement

    October 20, 2020 / 3 Comments

There are so many reasons to love October. The leaves are changing, apples are ripe for picking, pumpkin spice- everything is in stores, and the thrill of Halloween (my personal favorite holiday) lingers all month long. But what is fair trade anyway? Here is a breakdown of the term and some frequently asked questions. What is fair trade? Fair trade is a term for a trading partnership that seeks greater equity in international trade by paying fair prices to…

    Trades of Hope Savanna Collection

    July 26, 2019 / No Comments

“If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa.” -John Hemingway Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed about Africa, especially the animals of the African savanna. I preferred playing with figurines of cheetahs and giraffes over dolls, and my bedroom had an African safari theme. As an adult my childhood dreams of traveling to Africa came true and I was able to visit Ethiopia and Ghana. I also fell in love with the people, the traditions, the beautiful designs they incorporate into their clothing and crafts. As a first grade teacher I teach about the savanna habitat every year, and I love sharing my…

Having a baby has certainly challenged my sustain Having a baby has certainly challenged my sustainability goals. I know that disposable diapers create a lot of waste- in fact an estimated 3.5 million tons of waste every year. But I couldn’t bring myself to commit to doing the reusable cloth diapers. I was thrilled to discover another solution- @nestdiapers are plant-based, biodegradable, and I can compost them! Best part is they’re also affordable. We tested these diapers all along the PNW this summer and they held up great for our active little family. 🥰
After 2.5 years, we’re finally back to traveling After 2.5 years, we’re finally back to traveling and exploring new places- now with a baby in tow! We enjoyed Vancouver’s many breweries while the little guy napped. I was so impressed with how advanced this city is when it comes to sustainability as well! More on this later.
