20 for 2020: Women Who Inspire Those to Go Green and Shop Ethically Part 2.

    March 31, 2020 / 6 Comments

When I started my blog post about inspirational women in sustainability I had every intent of keeping it short, say maybe, 10 women. 15 max. However, there where too many badass women to name. In fact, it was hard keeping it to a list of 20! Here is part 2 of the 20 for 2020 inspirational women in sustainability series. 11. and 12. Lauren Conrad & Hannah Skvarla Lauren Conrad and Hannah Skvarla inspire those to empower artisans by shopping fair trade home decor. The two co-founders formed the idea for their fair trade company The Little Market when on a trip to Uganda and Tanzania. While in Africa they…

March is one of my favorite months of the year for many reasons; I love college basketball, St. Patrick’s Day, and the first day of spring is in March. Mainly I love March because it’s Women’s History Month: a time where we can pause to observe and celebrate the vital role of women in American history and appreciate the struggle women went through and continue to experience to get equal rights. Unfortunately, the Coronavius pandemic has largely overshadowed Women’s History Month this year. It is a dark and uncertain time for all. I know for many simply reading the news produces much anxiety. Let’s all take a moment to step…

How to Wear Women’s History Month

    March 9, 2019 / No Comments

Yesterday I celebrated International Women’s Day with my class of first graders. We watched a video that gave students some background knowledge of the holiday, including social injustices women faced and how women fought for gender equality. We watched a news clip of a 9 year old girl who wrote a letter to NBA Steph Curry asking why his shoes weren’t available for girls and discussed the power of writing a letter. Then we shared several stories and wrote about women who inspire us, including Mae Jamison, Simone Biles, Hillary Clinton, Malala, Beatrix Potter, Helen Keller, Rosa Parks, the list goes on! I was so impressed with the ideas they…

Having a baby has certainly challenged my sustain Having a baby has certainly challenged my sustainability goals. I know that disposable diapers create a lot of waste- in fact an estimated 3.5 million tons of waste every year. But I couldn’t bring myself to commit to doing the reusable cloth diapers. I was thrilled to discover another solution- @nestdiapers are plant-based, biodegradable, and I can compost them! Best part is they’re also affordable. We tested these diapers all along the PNW this summer and they held up great for our active little family. 🥰
After 2.5 years, we’re finally back to traveling After 2.5 years, we’re finally back to traveling and exploring new places- now with a baby in tow! We enjoyed Vancouver’s many breweries while the little guy napped. I was so impressed with how advanced this city is when it comes to sustainability as well! More on this later.
